Consensys, 2018

The Consensys project explores the nature of connections, in between both living and non-living entities, and how the architectures of these connections reflects community identity and relationships amongst individuals. Here we explore this concept by focusing on decentralized blockchain technologies that connect members in a flat hierarchy and are managed autonomously. These systems are analagous to how microbes communicate with one another in decentralized colonies and emergent systems.

Consensys, a blockchain company that developed Ethereum, commissioned this work to communicate concepts surrounding not only blockchain networks but of their company ecosystem and its decentralized structure. The work was created by sampling over 400 employees bacteria from personnel and growing a multitude of distinct species on a Petri dish. The dish was then photographed and preserved in resin, digitally recording and physically preserving ledger-like records that cannot be altered retroactively.
